Media Center

ALMADEN ELEMENTARY’S MEDIA CENTER is at the hub of learning and activities that are a daily part of students’ and teachers’ lives at school. The Media Center houses a very large collection of library books in both English and Spanish, amounting to more than 13,000 titles.

During the school day, classes cycle through the library to find and check out books. Young students have stories read to them by Library Clerk Rosa Harris. Students can peruse the collection online by subject, author, title or keyword search. Some fourth and fifth grade students make up a team of student library helpers that help Rosa maintain our excellent book collection, the monthly theme decorations, checking in books and carefully filing them back on the shelves. The Media Center is also used by the after-school YMCA program, tutoring sessions by our G.E. Tutors, weekly staff and grade level meetings, the Scholastic Book Fair, Parent Literacy Nights, parent classes, and other special occasions.

Our generous corporate partner, General Electric, hand built and donated three large book carts (of beautiful hardwood constrution) on wheels that can be brought into classrooms brimming with books for our students. They are pictured below.
