Dear parents and students,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I hope you enjoyed your summer break and that you’re ready for another great year of teaching and learning.

Over the summer, the school district staff was hard at work getting ready to welcome you back. Our work will remain focused on the implementation of the school district’s strategic plan – Opportunity21. As we begin this school year, we continue to move this plan forward. Specifically, we will focus on ensuring that we have the highest quality staff in our schools. We know that retaining and recruiting high quality teachers and support staff will help ensure our students receive the finest 21st century education. This year we continue with implementation of the Common Core State Standards as we challenge our students with a more rigorous curriculum, continue to use data to drive decision-making, and identify ways in which to continue to be more effective and efficient in the delivery of our services. All of this work will help all San Jose Unified students succeed.

Again, welcome back! I know you are ready to work hard and I challenge you to do so. We will be here to guide and support you on your quest to success! Have a great 2014-2015 school year.

Superintendent
San Jose Unified School District

Apreciados padres y estudiantes:
