Bachrodt Charter Academy: A Conversion Charter School

Bachrodt Academy is the only conversion charter school in the San Jose Unified School District. A conversion charter is a public school of choice that operates with freedom from some of the regulations that apply to traditional public schools.  Both the San Jose Unified and the State Department of Education’s Boards of Trustees approved Bachrodt’s petition for charter status in 2007 and its renewal in 2013.  The central element of the Charter is the teaching of Common Core Standards through the Project Based Learning (PBL) instructional model. The PBL model will enable us to meet several critical needs facing our student population by addressing discrepancies in academic achievement, while closing the opportunity gap through authentic learning experiences and increased student engagement. Students will acquire 21st century skills and knowledge, with Technology and Arts infused throughout their educational experiences.
