Student Email Accounts for 8th graders

San José Unified School District is aligning academic counseling services to all students in both middle and high school. As part of our initiative, we would like to prepare students beginning in middle school for College and Career Readiness. One step in this process includes creating a professional e-mail that can eventually be used to correspond with colleges, universities, and other post-secondary opportunities available to your student.

In the Spring of 2015, your 8th grade student will be creating a professional e-mail account with the help of their school counselor. The main purpose of creating this e-mail account will be for your student to create a California Colleges profile that will save their career interests and college searches. Through this email account, the middle school counselor may send students information about age-appropriate college and career opportunities available to them, such as summer programs and volunteer opportunities. The student will enter their e-mail into the Infinite Campus Student Portal, and when the student enters 9th grade, they will begin to receive emails from their high school counselor regarding college and career information through their Naviance account. (Naviance is a web-based college and career readiness platform that allows SJUSD high school students to manage their college applications and process).  As students transition to high school, and move towards their post-secondary college or career option, your child will be required to regularly check emails that colleges, universities, or workplaces may send with critical,  time-stamped deadlines. We would like to prepare our students to understand the importance of this practice as early as 8th grade.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact your school’s academic counselor. Parents/guardians may fill out the following email opt-out form, if they prefer that their child not have an e-mail account. (English E-mail Opt-Out Form, Spanish E-mail Opt-Out Form)

Spelling bee will be held on Wednesday the 21st Jan right after school in the cafeteria. Baby Ads for the yearbook

Yearbook is making annual “Baby Ads” available for 8th grade parents to purchase.  What is a “baby ad”?  It’s a tribute or message to your child that you create online with your own message and childhood photos! You create it and the BHMS yearbook staff places the ad in the yearbook.  The online creator is super easy and all editing and payments are taken care of in one site! You can even save your design and edit it later!  The place to go is www.yearbookordercenter.com and enter job anumber 16193. You can order an 1/8 page, 1/4 page, even up to 1/2 page! Questions or how-to’s or if you have twins .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
