What are Broadway’s Student Expectation?

  • Attend School daily and on time
  • Follow rules and staff requests
  • Communicate respectfully
  • Maintain a safe and neutral campus
  • Participate in school activities
  • Come to school prepared to work, including school supplies-pencil, pen, notebook, etc.

  • What are Broadway’s Behavior Standards?
    Students are responsible for complying with all rules and regulations in the San Jose Unified School District Student and Parent Information Handbook. In addition to district standards, students are expected to follow all rules for Broadway High School. Parents are asked to support their student in the compliance of these standards by maintaining regular contact with staff and administration.

    Is Broadway a closed campus?
    Yes, students are not allowed off campus, in the parking lot, or in front of the school during school hours. Students on or near other school campuses will be cited.

    Does Broadway have a Dress Code? 
    Yes, students shall dress appropriately for daily attendance at school. (See BHS Dress Code)

    Are Electronic Devices allowed at Broadway? 
    All electronic devices must be turned off while in class and during passing periods.  Students may access their phones during brunch and lunch only.  Students may not wear headphones while on campus due to safety reasons. (See BHS Dress Code).

    Does Broadway provide brunch and lunch?
    Brunch and lunch are available from the kitchen.  A new application for free or reduced prices lunch must be completed yearly.

    Does Broadway offer medical services?
    Broadway’s health office is staffed by a School Nurse 4 days/week, and a Health Aide/Clerk daily from 2-4 PM.  The School Nurse also works with the Young Families students and their young children in our Infant/Toddler center.  The Santa Clara County Public Health Department provides a mobile medical van on a biweekly basis.  Students may make appointments through the school office.  Infants and children in the day care program are also eligible.

    Are students allowed to park on campus?
    Students who drive to school must park their vehicles in the school parking lot. Students may not park on the neighborhood streets or local business parking lots. Students must have a valid California Driver’s license and carry required insurance coverage.  A copy of the license must be on file in the school office.

    Is Broadway a smoke/tobacco free environment?
    Yes, Broadway is smoke/tobacco free.  All students, regardless of age, are prohibited from the use of all tobacco products and possession of smoking paraphernalia (i.e. matches, lighters, etc.) on campus or near school District property.

    Are Special Education Services provided at Broadway?
    Special Day classes are available at Broadway.  RSP students are mainstreamed and given support classes to ensure success.

    Are students and parents/guardians required to attend an orientation meeting each year?
    All students and their parents/guardians must attend an orientation/parent meeting before receiving a class schedule. Meetings include graduation requirements, school policy and processes, and yearly planning.

    Does Broadway offer Study Hall Classes?
    Students needing extra support to obtain credits will be placed in a support class until their grades improve.  This may be a 7th period class and students will be expected to attend.

    Does Broadway offer a Young Families Program for teen mothers?
    In addition to high school subjects, teen parents also take classes in infant/toddler development and social/emotional development. Expectant parents also receive instruction in prenatal health and nutrition.
