Transfer within SJUSD (Intradistrict)
Transfer to/from another district (Interdistrict)
International Academy - Academia internacional
Transportation Services - Servicios de transporte
If your student wants to attend a school other than their neighborhood school, you can apply for an Intradistrict Transfer. Applications are accepted from February through the beginning of the following school year and must be renewed annually.
Intradistrict Transfers are approved only if there are spots available at your chosen school after all neighborhood students have been registered. Even if a transfer is granted, please note that your student may be subject to displacement in future years due to increases in neighborhood enrollment at their chosen school. Please note that transportation services will not be provided by the district for students with Intradistrict Transfers.
Priority for Intradistrict Transfer is given to students with:
● A parent/guardian who works at a San José Unified site within the requested school’s attendance boundary;
● A parent/guardian who works within the requested school’s boundary (verification required);
● Childcare within the requested school’s boundary (verification required); and/or
● Sibling(s) attending the requested school.
Elementary Transfer (Grades TK-5)
New applications with the sibling priority that are turned in during Elementary Pre-Registration (February-March) will be processed in April. All other new applications will be processed as space is available, up to one month after the start of school. Regardless of when you submit an application, you should plan for your student to start the year at your neighborhood school.
Secondary Transfer (Grades 6-12)
Students applying for a Secondary Intradistrict Transfer must have a satisfactory academic, behavior and attendance record. Transfers approved after the start of a semester will happen at the beginning of the next semester. If an application is approved and there is no space available, the student will be placed on the wait list. Applications must be signed by a principal from your student’s assigned school and include the student’s transcript and attendance before submitting the application to the Enrollment and Information Centers.
Please call the Student Assignment Department at (408) 535-6232 ext. 14628 for more information.
No Child Left Behind
The federal policy known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is being phased out. Student transfers are no longer available under this program.
