I am delighted to teach fifth grade at Graystone Elementary, where my emphasis is on writing and content area reading while also teaching all subject areas. Prior to teaching at Graystone, I taught seventh grade language arts and social studies. In addition to my elementary credential, I have supplements in math (to 9th grade) and science (to 9th grade). I also have a single subject credential in English, certification in GATE instruction, and experience with intervention programs. I recently completed my Masters in Teaching (MAT) program through National University, which also allowed me to obtain my California Reading Credential (Reading Specialist certification for the state). Students in my class complete several projects, large writing assignments, historical simulations, and novel studies over the course of the year in addition to the district’s prescribed instruction. My academic interests tie closely to my background, and I love sharing information with my students.
Before I started teaching, I worked in a variety of industries including chemical, pharmaceutical, and data information retrieval firms. Over the span of twenty-five years, I was fortunate to have extensive experience in marketing, project management, personnel management, and new product development. The thing I enjoy the most is the opportunity to learn something new and to help others do the same. My large personal library is shared with my husband, Mark Dooley, and our two cats. Mark works for High Wire Press, and manages our Dancing with Words tutoring business. Our daughter, Monica, obtained an AA in History and an AA in Communications from Foothill College in 2011. She graduated with her BS in Psychology from Notre Dame de Namur in 2015. She is now working online on her Masters in Psychology from Sacred Heart University, and she plans to obtain a counseling position in the future.
