This year (2016-17) will be my thirteenth year teaching fifth grade at Graystone Elementary. Each year has been challenging and rewarding in its own way and has given me an opportunity to learn and grow as a teacher. I hold a Master’s degree in Education with emphasis in cross-cultural education, along with a California Credential in teaching (multiple subjects) and a National Board Certification.
Prior or becoming a teacher, I was an audiologist. I have a doctorate in Audiology and have held research and teaching positions in India, State University of New York at Buffalo, and San Jose State University. Being a strong believer in education and having been passionate about teaching since childhood, becoming a teacher was a logical choice when it was time to change careers, and here I am.
Views on education
Education and knowledge are the best gifts we can give the next generation. I do believe that students need a combination of direct instruction in basic skills and concepts and an opportunity to work with peers to discover and uncover information on their own. The recent adoption of Common Core Standards will provide an excellent opportunity for such an approach.
A child’s success in school depends on a strong school-home partnership and I look forward to working with you all in establishing a strong support system your child can thrive upon.
Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation. ~ John F. Kennedy
