This year we will begin year one of Project Cornerstone’s Asset Building Champion Parent Program to benefit our students and provide them with developmental assets and social skills. Each month, a book focusing on one or more of the children’s developmental assets will be read and discussed in the classroom by parent volunteers.
More information about Project Cornerstone at Graystone, the parent reader training schedule and volunteer opportunities can be found on the Graystone Home and School Club website:
What we have found as parent volunteers is that we enjoy a common language with our children, as a result of teaching these valuable lessons in their classrooms. We have the opportunity to meet all of the students in the class and get to know them as unique individuals. It is so much fun to be greeted with a hug by one of the students that has gotten to know us through volunteering.
If you are interested in getting involved, but don’t want to teach the lessons in the classroom, we will have a Program Volunteer opportunity for you. You can choose how you would like to share your talents. This year, we are ramping up our Fun Visors program, which is a weekly art project related to our monthly Project Cornerstone book and theme of the month. There are many things that you can do for this (help make crafts, source items for the craft, work a shift, help set up, etc.). We will need volunteers to help with lunch time activities this year, as well.
Please contact one of us if you would like more information or have any questions.
Thanks so much for your time and your talents!
