6th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE DESCRIPTION

PREREREQUISITE: None.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Standard 1- Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2- Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3- Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.

Standard 4- Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.

Standard 5- Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.

Equipment supplied by teacher during class time.

COURSE OBJECTIVES 

  1. Students will demonstrate the motor skills and patterns of volleying, striking, dribbling, and throwing.
  2. Students will perform folk and line dances.
  3. Students will combine movement patterns and skills to play a lead-up or modified game; which may include Volley Tennis, Pass Ball, Frisbee Golf, Soccer and Basketball.
  4. Students will explain, demonstrate and identify movement concepts, manipulative skills, rhythmic skills and a combination of movement patterns; which include locomotor skills and offensive strategies.
  5. Students will assess the components of heath related physical fitness and develop individual goals for each of the components, based on the Fitness gram.
  6. Students will demonstrate self-responsibility in a social setting, which may include groups of two or more.

Students demonstrate mature techniques, which include overhand, sidearm, and underhand throwing; catching; kicking/punting/striking; trapping; dribbling; and volleying.  Activities may include Frisbee, Softball, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Pickle Ball, track and field, combative activities, and adventure/outdoor activities.
  2. Students will perform Multicultural dances.
  3. Students will develop an individual or dual game that uses a manipulative skill, two different offensive strategies and a scoring system and teach it to another person.
  4. Students will assess the components of health related physical fitness and develop individual goals for each of the components, based on the Fitness gram.
  5. Students will demonstrate self-responsibility in a social setting, which may include groups of two or more.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

COURSE OBJECTIVES 

  1. Students will develop and teach a team game that uses elements of spin or rebound, designated offensive and defensive space, a penalty system, and a scoring system.
  2. Students demonstrate basic gymnastic/tumbling skills, then create and perform a gymnastic/tumbling routine.
  3. Students will perform Square dances.
  4. Students demonstrate basic offensive and defensive skills in team activities, which may include Flag Football, Basketball, Badminton, Softball, Soccer, Lacrosse, Volleyball, and Tennis.
  5. Students will assess the components of heath related physical fitness and develop individual goals for each of the components, based on the Fitness gram.
  6. Students will demonstrate self-responsibility in a social setting, which may include groups of two or more.
  7. Students will identify the contributions of members of a group or team and reward members for accomplishing a task or goal.
