Leland Speech & Debate wins California High School Speech & Debate Championship.

Leland Speech and Debate won the California High School Speech and Debate State Championship held in Temecula April 17-19. Twenty teams were recognized for outstanding performance out of the 156 high school teams entered. Only two other Santa Clara County schools placed in the top twenty – Bellarmine in 3rd place and Archbishop Mitty in 5th. Thirty-six Leland students qualified to attend the tournament representing the Coast Forensic League, ranked as one of the top leagues in the nation. Twenty-five Leland students won awards including three state championships: Ann-Kathrin Merz in Lincoln Douglas Debate; Neil Bhagat and Matthew Basanty in Duo Interpretation of Literature, and Catherine Gao and Ali Heera in Parliamentary Debate. In the tournaments leading up to State, Leland won the first place team award in the Coast Forensic League Qualifying Tournaments and in the National Speech and Debate Association California Coast Qualifying Tournaments.​

Newsweek Ranks Leland Among Top High Schools in the Nation

Newsweek magazine has ranked Leland 54th in the nation in recognition of our high graduation rate, high level of college readiness and college attendance among our students. The ranking was calculated using various data points, including enrollment rate, graduation rate, state-level assessment scores, weighted AP/IB composite score, and weighted SAT/ACT composite score. New Outside Course Approval Form & Process

*Beginning in the 2015/16 school year, any course taken outside of Leland that students wish to add to their Leland transcript must be pre-approved by an academic counselor using the SJUSD High School Outside Credit Approval Form
*If your child is planning to take a course outside of Leland this summer or next year that they are planning to add to their Leland transcript, they must have the course evaluated and the new form signed before enrolling in the course.
*Please have your child turn in the form after-school to Mrs. Diatta or Mrs. Stone. There will be a three day turn-around time for your student to pick up the approved form from the registrar, Mrs. Johnson, in the main office.
*Please note that beginning in the 2015/16 school year, on-line PE, on-line visual performing arts classes, and on-line science classes will no longer be approved for SJUSD transfer credit.
