Walk-A-Thon & Silent Auction Fundraiser

This year’s Walk-a-Thon/Silent Auction was a huge success!

A BIG Lion’s Roar to our Walk-A-Thon chairpersons Barbara Carbone and Irene O’Brien and Silent Auction chairs Fiona Kaufman and Kathleen Giacinto.  Both teams did an amazing job!  We cannot forget to recognize the entire community for their generosity!  These funds are critical to our SMART programs, and with this successful fundraiser, we are able to continue to provide outstanding program enhancements to our 720 students on campus.

Miss Mlakar’s students were the only class to achieve 100% WAT participation.  They were rewarded with an fun pizza party in the outdoor seating area!

WAT Golden Shoe Awards

A BIG Lions’ Roar shout out to all the award recipients at the Walk-A-Thon awards assembly on Tues 11/1.  Congratulations to Mrs. Fickett’s Fourth Grade classroom!  Their class won the Golden Shoe Award for Most Money raised.

And another big congratulations to Mrs. Ketkar’s Fourth Grade classroom!  They won the Golden Shoe award for Most Miles Walked.

Thank you Los Alamitos families for walking! This event was a HUGE success!

What are Walk-A-Thon & Silent Auction?

Walk-a-thon and SIlent Auction or “WAT/SA” is the major PTA sponsored fundraiser for the year. WAT is a fun-filled day to spend with your family and show support for Los Alamitos.

Why do we need WAT/SA?

Without the money raised at WAT/SA, our students will not have the enrichment programs that make our school the special place it is. WAT/SA supports our students at Los Alamitos and many of the S.M.A.R.T. (Science, Music, Art, Reading Lab, Technology) programs that Los Alamitos offers, and much, much more…PLEASE JOIN US!

When is WAT/SA?

Saturday, October 1, 2011
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Come early to watch the teachers dance!

Where is WAT/SA held?

WAT is held right here on the Los Alamitos campus.

What is there to do at WAT/SA?

Walking, teacher dance, walking, music, silent auction, walking, fun foods, walking, more silent auction, walking, full lunch menu, walking, dutch raffle, end of silent auction, and more walking!  Don’t forget to come and browse as well as bid at our amazing Silent Auction!  There are thousands of items, including vacations, event tickets, unique one-of-a-kind items, and much, much more.

For a preview of the items up for bid, visit the Silent Auction webpage at www.LASilentAuction.com.  While at the Silent Auction, check out the scrapbook boards in the cafeteria to get a glimpse of what you can do and how this event supports our kids.

How can I help?

We would like all Los Alamitos Students to participate in WAT/SA. Last year over 500 students participated. It’s easy, just follow these simple steps:

1.    Turn in the PTA waiver. Your child cannot participate without a signed waiver.
2.    Students can make a poster to decorate the fence area of our school.  More information to follow.
3.    Review the Rules Packet with your student (packets are distributed on Friday, Sept. 16th) and collect donors.
4.    Donate generously to the Silent Auction.
5.    Parents, please volunteer to Basket Build, Set-Up, Monitor, or Break Down Silent Auction.
6.    Parents, please volunteer to work a walk-a-thon shift on Saturday, October 1st.  We need a lot of “ground control” to make this day a success.  No experience necessary.
7.    Read information in your child’s white envelope or on the Yahoo group on how to sign up for volunteer shifts.  We can’t do this without you!
8.    Invite friends and family and come to Walk-a-thon and Silent Auction on October 1st and have fun!!

Thank you for your continued support,

WAT Co-Chair’s Barbara Carbone and Irene O’Brien
SA Co-Chairs Kathleen Giacinto and Fiona Kaufmann
