Dear OLINDER FAMILIES,
Welcome to the Olinder Elementary 2010-2011 school year! I look forward to working with you this year in partnership to continue the Olinder tradition of a vibrant, involved school community that keeps ours students growth and progress at the heart of our work. As PRINCIPAL, My first priority is to assure that EVERY Olinder STUDENT meets or exceeds state and district academic and lifelong standards. We will be supported in this effort by our new SUPERINTENDENT, DR. VINCENT MATTHEWS, and the SJUSD SCHOOL BOARD.
Olinder TEACHERS are excited to meet your student on the First Day of School, August 16, 2010 and are preparing for a year filled with excellent learning opportunities. The campus is sparkling clean, thanks to MIGUEL CAMARENA, our CUSTODIAN. Please note our new school start and dismissal times: 8:55 a.m. start – 3:03 p.m dismissal.
THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU PLAN FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL:
• FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Monday, August 16, 2010. Regular hours are 8:55 a.m.- 3:03 p.m. and every Tuesday is Early Dismissal at 2:00 PM. Kindergarten students attend full time this year and are dismissed at 3 PM. The first bell rings at 8:50 a.m. Students are to line up single file on the blacktop by their designated classroom. Students should not be on campus prior to 8:30 a.m. The best time for a child to arrive at school is 10 minutes before the 8:50 a.m. bell unless they are going to eat in the cafeteria. Breakfast is served from 8:10 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
• CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Student classroom assignments will be posted on the outside window of the school after 6:00 p.m., Friday evening, August 13.
• UNIFORMS: Olinder Elementary is a uniform school. All students are required to wear the Olinder uniform starting the first day of school Aug. 16, 2010. Lands End is our uniform supplier. Catalogs are available in the office. Stop by and pick one up or check the online catalogue at landsend.com. Many retail stores in our area carry uniforms as well (Sears, Walmart, Kohls, Target, Penneys)
• BREAKFAST AND LUNCH: There is a cost of $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch. Applications for free and reduced meals were sent home in July. If you qualify for free or reduced meals, your student may also receive free /reduced breakfast. The application must be completed and returned each year. If you did not receive an application, please request one from our Cafeteria Supervisor, Sonia Casillas.

Apreciadas familias de OLINDER,
¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2010-2011! Estoy muy ansiosa de trabajar con ustedes en conjunto y continuar con una comunidad comprometida que se interesa por mantener el crecimiento y progreso de nuestros estudiantes con todo el corazón. Como Directora, mi prioridad es asegurarme de que cada estudiante de Olinder aprenda y vaya más alla con los estándares del estado así como los estándares académicos y personales. Estaremos apoyados en este esfuerzo por nuestro nuevo Superintendente, Dr. Vincente Mathews y las Directivas del Distrito Unificado de San José
Los Profesores de Olinder están muy felices de conocer a sus estudiantes en agosto 16 de 2010 que es nuestro primer día escolar y se están preparando para un año lleno de excelentes oportunidades de aprendizaje. La escuela se encuentra Hermosa y limpia gracias a Miguel Camarena. Por favor vean nuestro nuevo horario escolar que ir desde las 8:55 de la mañana hast alas 3:00 de la tarde.
La siguiente información les ayudara a planear para la primera semana de escuela:
• Primer día de escuela: Lunes agosto 16 de 2010, horas regulares de 8:55 de la mañana hast alas 3:03 de la tarde. Cada martes, la salida será a las 2:00 de la tarde. Los estudiantes de kinder vendrán a la escuela este año tiempo completo su salida será a las 3:00 de la tarde. El primer timbre sonará a las 8:50 de la mañana. Los estudiantes deberán hacer en fila en el patio frente a su respective número de clase. Los estudiantes no deben llegar a la escuela antes de las 8:30 de la mañana. Ellos deberán venir 10 minutos antes de las 8:50 a menos que quieren comer en la cafeteria. El desayuno será servido entre las 8:10 y las 8:40 de la mañana.
• Clases asignadas: La clase asignada a cada estudiante estará disponible en la ventana afuera de la escuela después de las 6:00 de la tarde el viernes 13.
• Uniformes: La escuela Olinder es una escuela que exije uniforme. Todos los estudiantes deben usar el uniforme empezado desde el primer día de escuela agosto, 16 de 2010. The Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Vincent Matthews as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2010.
Dr. Matthews was selected as a finalist from among 19 applicants for the position.
