CBOC 0903
I wish to commend the District for its 11th hour conversion on WGE Permanent
2 story classrooms and true Multi-Purpose Building.
I wish also to condemn the District for it's timing of the Permanent 2
story classrooms at WGE.
Of all the Elementary schools getting Permanents and or new Multi-Purpose
Buildings, WGE is the Last on the list.
The Following schools will get Permanents In Q3 2004
Booksin
Schallenberger
Anne Darling
Lowell will in Q3 2005
Hacienda will in Q3 2006
Hacienda's Multi-Purpose in Q3 2008
And Finally WGE will in Q3 2009
That's 5 years after Booksin,Schallenberger and Anne Darling.
And 3 years after Hacienda.
Willow Glen Elementary's small physical size desperately needs a Real
Multi-Purpose Building. In the IP there is a plan to reconfigure the Multi-Purpose
Building in Q3 2006. However when the Multi-Purpose Building is Converted
this will require additional portable to cover the classrooms that are
converted in the Multi-Purpose Building. This will further exacerbate
the footprint problem. Then three years latter we will have a train wreak
when the 2 story is finally built. 5 additional portables will need to
be moved in order to accommodate the new 2 story until it is finished.
The most logical step is for the District to temporally move the 5 portables
in Q3 2004 so that the new two Story Permanent Classrooms can be built
in their current location. Then in parallel build the Multi-Purpose Building
conversion. The Classrooms that are lost in the conversion will be replace
by the new classrooms in the Two Story Permanent Building.
Willow Glen Elementary is one of the few Elementary schools that is truly
integrated both on a racial level and a socioeconomic level. The same
cannot be said for Booksin or Hacienda.
If this disparity is left unchecked then you can be assured that there
will be trouble with the VIP plan.
