I.Title Maintenance Supervisor
II.Definition
Under general supervision of the Director of General Services, coordinate plan and manage the district maintenance and facilities programs for the San Jose Unified School District. The Maintenance Department is responsible for the care and repair of all district buildings and equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the successful management and supervision of the District employees who provide services in the following trades: carpentry, electrical, H.V.A.C., plumbing, painting, glazing, locks, roofing, paving, and any other area which affects the care of school buildings and facilities. The Supervisor will be required to plan work of others, identify problems that need to be addressed, be able to prioritize work, evaluate employees, evaluate work and articulate with school site administrators in a clear, concise, friendly and professional manner.
III. Examples of Duties
Acts as a liaison between the Director of General Services and other district personnel; promotes and improves working relations and communications between the school sites and the Maintenance Department; assists in developing work methods, procedures and problem solving techniques as they apply to department needs; supervises and evaluates department employees; helps the Director in the preparation of reports and correspondence and maintains time and production records as related to assigned functions; maintains current and accurate information on safety rules, state and federal regulations applicable to school facilities work, and district policies and contracts; develops and maintain inventory control, production schedules, preventative maintenance schedules and records.; develops job estimates, work schedules and metrics for job assignments; assists in the development of training programs for other employees in the area of tools and/or tool and job safety. May be required to perform other duties which fall under the umbrella of the General Services Division.

Must demonstrate an ability to provide leadership in a positive, open communicated manner and be focused on customer service and satisfaction at the school sites.
V.Employment Standards
A. Knowledge of: Tools, materials, equipment and standard work practices of trades and school maintenance repair work. Current district and department operational procedures. Safe work practices and procedures. Familiar with city, state and federal regulations and laws as they apply to school facilities work.
B.Ability to: Learn, interpret, and apply rules and policies relating to programs. Perform difficult and responsible work with speed and accuracy. Use a computer terminal using word processing, CAD, database and spread sheet software, and other applications utilized by the Maintenance Department. Analyze situations and recommend an effective course of action; Meet with the public and district personnel and courteously and tactfully establish cooperative working relationships. Deal with stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. Effectively meet all deadlines and time schedules. Prepare accurate reports.
C.Educational/Training/Experience: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent and five years of increasingly responsible experience.
D. Licenses/Certificates: Must possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License. Must be a journeyman card holder or the equivalent. Experience in supervising and evaluating personnel.
