Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive, system approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve success, socially, emotionally, and academically.  Attention is focused on creating and sustaining school-wide, classroom, and individual systems of support.  PBIS develops school-wide systems that support staff to teach and promote positive, appropriate behavior in all students.  By reducing behavioral problems, PBIS creates and maintains safe learning environments where teachers can teach and students can learn.

Rewards for Positive Behaviors

Reed Elementary focuses on building positive behaviors through the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Cornerstone curriculum.  Both school-wide curriculums emphasize respectful behaviors, responsibility, leadership and social development. Rewards reinforce such behaviors and encourage students to further develop, maintain, and contribute to the school environment.

In the Classroom:  Each classroom has several methods and routines for rewarding positive behaviors. Teachers do so in a fair and respectful manner. Students are taught what the expectations are and how to earn such rewards.

Grades 1-5

Rockstar Rewards (also known as Positive Play)
Each month, all students without a Discipline Referral will participate in a special school-wide reward event such as a period of free play activities. These activities will vary and could include games, movies, or free play. Teachers will supervise all of the activities. Those students who have received a Discipline Referral during the month will not participate in the reward event. Students who have received Discipline Referrals will be assigned to the principal during Rockstar Rewards. Students will be reviewing the classroom and school rules and reinforcing better decision-making. At the beginning of each month, those students who received a Discipline Referral will have a fresh start.

Reed Bobcat Award Tickets - REED ROCKS
Students are rewarded as staff observes a student being Responsible, Organized, Considerate, Kind, and Safe.  A Bobcat Award ticket may be given by a teacher, yard-duty, parent volunteer, or student monitor.  The ticket is given out when a student is observed being a Reed ROCKS kid. The tickets may be used to purchase items or activities from the Bobcat Store/Kiosk, which is sponsored and operated by the PTA.
