School Site Council (SSC) and SELAC (The School English Learners Advisory Council)

School Site Council

What is the School Site Council?

The School Site Council (SSC) is a team of parents, teachers, administrators and staff who work together to make decisions regarding the funding for the School Improvement Program, outlined in the school’s plan. SSC members make a commitment to serve a two-year term, and terms are staggered to ensure a mix of experienced and new participants. The SSC annually reviews the school budget, establishes a new budget and makes modifications as necessary. The California Education Code requires the School Site Council to develop a Single Plan for Student Achievement for Consolidated Application programs operated at the school. The council must recommend the proposed plan to the local governing board for approval, monitor its implementation, and evaluate the results. At least annually, the council must revise and recommend the plan, including proposed expenditures of all funds allocated to the school through the Consolidated Application, to the local governing board for approval.

What is SELAC?

The School English Learner Advisory Committee (SELAC) members are Reed parents and educators interested in improving the education of Reed students who are English language learners (EL). The District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) members are representatives from each school’s English Learner Advisory Committee (SELAC).

The purpose of SELAC is to advise school administrators and staff in the development of the school plan, and program development for English Learners. Monthly meetings are held in the Reed Library/Media Center (B-2).

When and where do the SSC and SELAC members meet?

This year the SSC and SELAC members meet together one Tuesday each month at 5:00 p.m. in B-2 (Library/Media Center).  All meetings are open to the public. Meetings are scheduled 9/4, 10/16, 11/6, 12/4, 1/8, 3/19, 5/7.

Join the Reed SELAC

The SELAC is an excellent opportunity to come together to get to know other families and school staff, learn about the school’s services, and offer recommendations to the school regarding English Learner services. Please contact the school office, (408) 535-6247, to get more information.

District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC)

The District English Learners Advisory Committee meets regularly to advise the District governing board regarding District goals and objectives, and to assist in developing a district-wide plan for English Learners Education. The meetings are in the District Board Room 129, and babysitting is provided in Room 133. Each school SELAC elects one of its members to serve on the DELAC. Click here for the DELAC meeting schedule
