How to Enroll at San Jose High School

The San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) Information and Enrollment Centers is here to assist you with school enrollment and school selection. English, Spanish, and Vietnamese bilingual personnel are available to help you. Our enrollment center is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the last enrollment appointment taken at 3:30 pm.

Enrollment Requirements

To enroll your student in San José Unified, you can complete the online registration or download the enrollment application and make an appointment with our Enrollment Center to provide the following documents:

1. Identity of Birth Parent/Guardian
2. Proof of Residency (must provide 3 original documents as listed on the SJUSD website)
3. Proof of Birthdate
4. Immunization Requirements
5. Proof of Participation in a Special Education Program
6. School Transcripts
7. Transfer Withdrawl Slip

Phase 1 of Secondary Enrollment

Phase 1 of Secondary Enrollment (grades 6-12) begins January 22, 2018 and ends February 9, 2018.  All new enrollments must be submitted and processed at the San José Unified Enrollment Center.

High School Placement

Parents of 8th-grade students currently enrolled in San José Unified have an opportunity to provide three ranked preferences for their student’s school assignment when they transition to high school.

In January, you will receive a school assignment form to complete and return to the school with your student. You can also submit your assignment request through our online parent portal anytime during the enrollment window.

All requests must be submitted by end of the enrollment period in order to be processed on time. You will be informed of your student’s school assignment in mid-March.

Soon afterward, your school principal will contact you with information regarding programs and registration for the upcoming year.

If your student wants to attend a school other than their neighborhood school, you can apply for an Intradistrict Transfer. Applications are accepted from February through the beginning of the following school year and must be renewed annually.

Intradistrict Transfers are approved only if there is space available at your chosen school after all neighborhood students have been registered. Even if a transfer is granted, your student may be subject to displacement in future years due to increases in neighborhood enrollment at their chosen school.

Please note that transportation services will not be provided by the district for students with Intradistrict Transfers.
