Students developing proficiency skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English are identified as English Language Learners based on the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). These students are reassessed annually to determine growth.
English Language Learners receive extra support to increase their success in school. The English Language Development Report Card shows the incremental progress attained by English language learners. The skills represent the developmental steps taken by the students to attain English proficiency.
Students learning English move toward English proficiency while being instructed in grade level content. The Booksin staff provides support through sheltered instruction and activities to foster English language development. Sheltered English Instruction provides modifications according to the students’ English proficiency level.
