Booksin Garden Schedule

Booksin’s garden includes plots for all classrooms to grow plants of their choosing.  Seasonal plantings of flowers and vegetables are always included.  Many dwarf citrus trees have been planted, and there is an outdoor classroom and shade structure.  Families often adopt plots during the summer months and enjoy the bounty of vine-ripened tomatoes and other good things.

A new program, Thriving Thursdays in the Garden, provides children the opportunity to spend time in the garden on Thursdays after eating their lunches.  Each teacher distributes garden passes to students who then spend their thirty minutes of recess under the guidance of Garden Moms.  These students do fun garden-related activities as well as help with ongoing garden chores such as composting, gardening, weeding, and keeping the garden tidy.  5th grade students, “Garden Guardians”, assist primary children with special gardening projects, making the time a cooperative, social experience for everyone.

The Garden Moms are looking for other parents to come and share Thriving Thursdays in the Garden and help with gardening chores.  Bring a lunch and share some relaxed time alongside the children.  With a few more volunteer parents, more children can take advantage of the special pleasures only a garden can afford.  Contact the principal, Ms. Maijala, at 408-535-6213 or , to volunteer.
