Welcome to Canoas Elementary School in 2008-09.
Canoas Elementary is a K-5 school that reopened in August 2000. The entire staff is committed to developing and implementing an intensive, well-balanced curriculum to ensure every child’s academic success. Reading, language arts and mathematics will be our key focus with the expectation that all students will be on or above grade level by the completion of the third grade.
Special emphasis in language arts is given to help students gain confidence in their ability to communicate both verbally and in written form. We have dedicated a 90-minute block of uninterrupted instructional time for the teaching of reading. In addition, another 60 minutes is dedicated to language arts. An Academic Language Acquisition Program (ALA) offers Spanish primary language instruction and English language development. Technology, social science, science, fine arts, physical education and health are interwoven throughout the curriculum to complete a program that is both comprehensive and stimulating. Students also participate in our Accelerated Reading and library skills program. Finally, school improvement funds enable us to provide additional services such as instructional associates, tutors and resource personnel to enhance our instructional program.
The staff looks forward to working with Canoas parents and community to create a learning environment that has high expectations, promotes students’ academic and social development, allows each child to reach their full potential, and makes learning fun.
