Advisory Committees

These committees provide opportunities for parents to volunteer and serve as valuable assets to our schools and communities.

Autism Advisory Committee (AAC)

The AAC is composed of parents and staff. The committee meets on the first Monday of the month from October to May from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.The purpose of the committee is to:
Continue development of SJUSD Autism Program toward goal of reaching world class status.
Continue forum for district/parent communication.
Maintain cutting edge knowledge of current research; disseminate same.
Create opportunities for guest speakers to address staff and parents.
Monitor implementation of Autism Program.

Budget Advisory Committee (BAC)

The budget Advisory Committee (BAC) advises the Superintendent regarding budget development for each fiscal year.  The Superintendent weighs the advice of the committee along with the priorities of the District Strategic Plan in preparing a final budget for recommendation to the Board of Education in June.
Meeting Schedule:  Meetings of the Budget Advisory Committee are open to the public and take place at 855 Lenzen Avenue. Check Calendar

Charge of the Committee: The committee is charged to
• Develop an understanding of the budget and financial issues.
• Develop recommendations for improving communication to enhance understanding of the district’s budget and financial condition.
• Develop recommendations on fiscal and program priorities that support the district’s strategic plan and a balanced budget.
• Review the district’s budget, share information with constituent groups, and generate recommendations for the Superintendent to consider in the budget development process.
• Contribute to and support a collaborative process.

Community Advisory Committee (CAC SE) of Special Education


What is the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC SE)?
California Education Code (Part 30, Chapter 2, Article 7, 56190) requires each Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) to establish a Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC SE).
CAC SE responsibilities include parent education and advocacy training, review and development of the special education local plan, participation in district committees directly affecting the special education program, and addressing concerns regarding special education programs that support students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).  The CAC SE is dedicated to insuring that every student receiving special education services within this district is getting the highest quality education.

District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC)

The District English Learners Advisory Committee meets regularly to advise the District governing board regarding District goals and objectives, and to assist in developing a district-wide plan for English Learners Education. Each school SELAC elects one of its members to serve on the DELAC. Call 535-6102 for further information. DELAC web page.

Migrant Education Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

The Migrant Education PAC meets regularly to advise and help plan the program and budget for Migrant Education. Members are elected in a district-wide process from among the parents whose students are in the Migrant Education Program. Call 535-6360 for further details.

Parent Teacher Association/Parent Teacher Student Association Council

The San José Unified PTA Council provides leadership training and provides a forum to allow local PTA/PTSAs to work together on district-wide issues. It also provides a communication link with 6th District PTA at the county level. Each PTA/PTSA Unit is a member of the San Jose Council. The PTA Council maintains an office in the District Office Building at 855 Lenzen Avenue, San Jose, and may be reached by telephone, by leaving a message at 535-6000 - Website

Voluntary Integration Plan (VIP) Committee

The purpose of the VIP Committee is to assist and advise the Board of Education in the achievement of Latino students in the following areas:

  • Student Assignment
  • Primary Language Instruction
  • Student Achievement
  • Integration
  • Parent Training and Involvement
  • Special Education
  • Drop Out, Discipline
  • Crosscultural Understanding

The committee consists of 8 parent/community members, 2 parent alternate members and 8 District staff members. There are five meetings held each year. Meetings are held at the District Office from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Community members are invited to attend and Spanish interpretation is provided if needed.
