Gunderson High School is a technological, collaborative, college-preparatory community that achieves academic excellence, celebrates individuality and respects diversity. We are in the final year of a three-year (2007-2010) competitive grant from the Magnet Schools Assistance Program of the U.S. Office of Education to develop our magnet program of Advanced Design Technology in the Arts & Sciences. We offer a challenging curriculum that is regularly evaluated to incorporate the latest technology in instruction. Gunderson’s focus is on the intellectual and problem-solving growth of each student. Through a partnership with Apple Computers, each sophomore, junior and senior student at Gunderson High School is eligible to receive an Apple MacBook laptop computer for his/her use at both home and school. Freshman have mobile computer carts available in classrooms, building essential skills to move into the 1:1 program in future years. Advanced Placement course offerings include English Literature and English Language, Spanish and French Languages, Biology, Chemistry, U.S. History, American Government, Calculus and Art.

With an outstanding record of student achievement, Leland was named a National Blue Ribbon School and a Very High Performing School based on the California
Academic Performance Index. The strength of Leland comes from rigorous academic standards, motivated students, supportive parents and community, and a highly qualified staff. With a communications specialty theme, Leland has the number one ranked Speech and Debate program in the nation. Leland offers unique opportunities in languages and media communication, while thoroughly preparing students for higher education. Over ninety percent of Leland students go on to college. The following goals are being implemented: improved student achievement; high standards and mastery of rigorous academic material; varied forms of assessment; a personalized and safe learning environment; a curriculum integrating technology and real life experiences.

36 - Lincoln High School

As the culminating level of the District’s K-12 AVPA Magnet Program, Lincoln’s courses facilitate the integration of academics with the visual and performing arts.  In-depth programs are offered in choral and instrumental music, art, drama, dance, and theater arts, which provide numerous opportunities for creative expression and cultural appreciation.  Lincoln’s challenging academic courses include Advanced Placement classes in U.S. History, English, American Government, European History, chemistry, biology, Spanish, French, studio art drawing, general studio art, music theory, statistics and calculus.  Lincoln has earned the National Blue Ribbon Award; four California Distinguished School Awards; and the Hispanic Magazine and Ryder System, Inc. Top Five Schools of Excellence Award.  In 2004, Lincoln received the 21st Century Schools of Distinction Award for Community Partnerships.

Pioneer, a California Distinguished School, offers all students a comprehensive education and access to programs that have won national recognition. As one of only 100 National Service Learning Leader schools, our science-focused, rigorous core curriculum is supplemented by the BioSite elective. Our students have multiple opportunities to be involved in volunteer and research programs outside of the classroom and to present on their programs and work at local and national conferences. All students participate in the cross-curricular sophomore project which engages them in meaningful community service. Our student artists participate in productions, exhibitions and concerts.  Our athletic, dance, spirit, and robotics teams are area leaders, proudly winning league titles and participating in regional and national championship tournaments.  Pioneer offers radio broadcasting training and experience with the District’s only radio station (KMTG 89.3 FM).  The success of the school is reflected by the generous support of parents, boosters, business partners and committed alumni.

San Jose High Academy offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, a rigorous pre-university certification for academically talented students in grades 11-12 and grades 9-10 of the Middle Years Program, an age-appropriate curriculum that provides a framework of academic challenge, enrichment, and life skills for students in grades 6-10.  Our IB magnet has been successful in providing challenging academic programs to a truly diverse student body. Additionally, funded by a new three-year Federal Magnet Schools Assistance grant, we are proud to announce a new Pre-Engineering /Technology Program, based on the latest research and program planning, which provides students a comprehensive introduction to engineering principles, concepts and real world programs to prepare them for college, including credits, and a successful future career.  Also funded by the Federal Magnet grant is a new Multilingual Communications Program (MCP) to enable our bilingual students to participate in a number of career paths toward a variety of professions, including translation services and global communications.  We are proud of our school. We are proud of our students.

Willow Glen High School is a community of high-achieving learners, their families, and business and community partnerships.  Willow Glen provides outstanding academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs that focus on the individual student.  In partnership with San Jose City College, Willow Glen’s University Express Program offers students the unique opportunity of earning on-going college credit during their high school career. Our school has tremendous family and community support, through a variety of avenues, with Parents’ Club, SELAC Committee, Willow Glen Foundation and several Booster organizations.  The greatest feature of Willow Glen lies within our walls: our students.
