Washington Elementary teachers are trained in instructional practices designed to accelerate student achievement. Last year 50% of Washington’s fifth grade students reached grade level proficiency or above in ELA and math evidence that grade level collaboration, monthly staff development opportunities, data analysis, reading campaigns, and a caring school climate do engender exemplary student achievement. The school promotes student initiative, responsibility, and success with monthly school-wide events, including a Spelling Bee, MathMania, Geo Jeopardy, and a Science Faire. Parents are encouraged to participate in Padre-a-Padre, Madre-a-Madre, La Plaza, Rosetta Stone, Family Tutoring, and SELAC meetings. Community involvement includes: San Jose Rotary Club, Saratoga Rotary Club, Catholic Charities, AG Edwards, Kaiser-Permanente, Porsche, Girl Scouts, National Hispanic University, and the San Jose Sharks.
