Trace offers a strong K-5 Academic, Visual, and Performing Arts program that provides students unique opportunities to integrate academics through art, drama, vocal music, orchestra, band and dance. Proven by research, the link between the performing arts and student academic success is a hallmark of Trace’s unique emphasis. In addition, during 2005-2006, Trace will continue the Parental Involvement in Education (PIE) program instituted at Cory. Since the foundation of our instructional program is challenging, our highly skilled professional staff uses the program to promote and nurture the academic, social, and creative growth of each individual child. This program gives the school a sense of excitement and energy. Students love to learn here, continuing their development of academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Our staff integrates writing throughout the curriculum, using the “Step Up to Writing” program. We offer an ALA program designed to meet the needs of English language learners. Our school mission statement, “Children Will Be Empowered with Interpersonal Skills and a Love of Learning,” provides the beacon that guides all decision making at Merritt Trace Elementary School.
