A: Yes, the Principal is directly responsible for what takes place on campus and will ensure that all food and beverages served/sold
on campus one half hour before and one half hour after the last period meet the nutritional standards established by the board.

A: The new regulations only apply to students one half hour before and one half hour after school.
Q: What types of beverages can be sold on campus?
A: Water - with no added sweetener
Milk - 2%, 1%, nonfat, rice milk, soymilk
Fruit juice – with at least 50% fruit juice and no added sweeteners
Vegetable juice – with at least 50 % vegetable juice and no added sweeteners

Q: Can carbonated beverages be sold on campus?
A: Only those listed above can be sold with carbonation.
Q: What does sold mean when referring to food or beverages?
A: Sold refers to any food or beverages provided to students on school grounds in exchange for money, coupons,
or vouchers. The term does not refer to food brought from home for individual consumption.
Q: What types of food or beverages can be sold for fundraising on campus during the school day?
A: The following types of food can be sold on campus during the school day
Individual portions of:
* Nuts, nut butters, seeds, eggs, cheese, fruits, and vegetables
* No single snack item may have more than 175 calories (elementary) or 250 calories (middle and high school)
* No single entrée item may have more than 400 calories or 4 grams of fat per 100 calories
Q: Are class celebrations impacted?
A: Class celebrations should occur after the last lunch period and are limited to no more than one party per month when
non-nutritious foods are served (i.e.; store bought cupcakes, ice cream, candy, etc.).
Home baked or prepared food/beverages items are not permitted on school campus.
Non-food parties are encouraged.
Q: Can a class have more than one celebration in a month?
A: Yes, as long as nutritious food is served or no food/beverages are served.

A: Home prepared food is not permitted on campus, except for individual use.
Q: What is the district wide vending program?
A: Vending machine items will be provided through SJUSD Student Nutrition Department. The district wide vending
program will ensure that the nutritional policies will be implemented uniformly throughout the district and that appropriate
fiscal practices will be followed.
Q: Will the policy change the types of fundraising that can be done?
A: All fundraisers done on school campus one half hour before school and one half hour after school must comply with the
nutrition standards established by the board.
