SJHA International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and Diploma Program

San Jose High Academy is an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Program provider and is the recipient of local, state, national recognition as an exemplary International Baccalaureate Magnet School.

Diploma Program - Grades 11 - 12

This is a rigorous pre-university course of studies that leads to externally moderated examinations. It is a comprehensive two-year course of study available in English, French and Spanish.  The curriculum generally allows international students to fulfill requirements of various national education systems. Students may also opt to take select courses for certification rather than select the entire IB Diploma.
Each student’s performance is measured against international levels of achievement.  These courses often meet the requirements of colleges for university credit, as well as solid preparation for college level work.

Middle Years Program - Grades 9 and 10

San Jose High Academy articulates closely with Burnett Academy to continue the thorough study of eight disciplines and accentuates the interrelatedness of the disciplines by using five perspectives known as the areas of interaction. They are:

  • health and social education
  • community and service
  • approaches to learning
  • environment
  • homo faber (man the maker)

The student is at the core of the program and learns to be a critical thinker and problem solver.
Assessment in the Middle Years Program follows the guidelines established by the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organization using formative as well as summative assessment strategies that are externally moderated only at the end of 10th grade.
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and Diploma Program consists of:
  • Language A
  • Language B
  • Humanities
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Arts, Instrumental and Vocal music program
