John Muir Middle School

Theresa Cash

6th Grade Earth Science
7th Grade Life Science

This is my fourth year teaching science at John Muir.  Previously, I was a resource teacher for the district’s home study program where I worked with parents to develop lesson plans specifically tailored to student’s individual needs.
Many, many, many years ago, I graduated from Leigh High School.  From there, I went to West Valley College and earned an associate degree in chemistry. Then I moved to UC Santa Barbara, and in between running on the cliffs above the ocean, I earned my bachelor’s degree in chemistry.  Returning to the bay area after I graduated, I worked as a research chemist, started my family, and worked on my master’s degree at San Jose State.  I finally finished my master’s degree just after my third child was born. After home schooling my son, foster parenting fourteen babies, and sending my first child off to college, I began working on my teaching credential......yes, I did finish!
I have four children. My oldest daughter, Michele, graduated from Stanford with a physics degree.  She is currently working on her PhD in planetary physics at the University of Washington.  My son, Stephen, graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in microbiology and is currently working in the bay area. My daughter, Aimee, is finishing her communications degree this year at Santa Clara University.  My baby, Gayle, just started college and is attending West Valley College.
In my spare time, I love to run in the hills (slowly, but I get there), run marathons (shorter distance are good, too), hike, camp, backpack, look at flowers, bike, boogie board in the ocean, and hang out with my kids, family and friends!
