John Muir Middle School

Jan Chock

Science Teacher

8th Grade Physical Science

I began teaching in the San Jose Unified School District in December 2000, and came to John Muir from Steinbeck 4 years ago.  I love teaching middle school students because they are fun and they keep me young.  Every day is a new and exciting adventure!  I try to instill in my students the values and ethics that are so important and necessary to their success in their future education and lives.  I am committed to helping them develop the basic skills that will serve them well in learning science because they are still at their critical formative stages of learning development.

Education and Experience
I hold a B.A. in Botany and a Ph.D. in Marine Botany.  I have taught at the college, high school and middle school levels, and I also was the Director of Curriculum Development at an educational website (homeworkhelp.com).

Hobbies and Interests
I play the ukulele and love to fly.
