High School Choice Process and Timeline

Choice forms are being mailed to eligible 5th and 8th grade parents on Friday, January 25th.

Phase I of Choices occurs only from 1/28/08 through 2/13/08.
a.  The Choice forms must be returned to the students’ current 5th or 8th grade social studies teachers.  (WGMS and Burnett MS students are turning these forms into their PE teachers.) These forms are due no later than 2/13/08.
b.  During Phase I ONLY, students returning their forms are eligible to be placed in their first-choice schools in a randomized fashion depending on space-availability in the following order:
1) neighborhood students
2) VIP students
3) Students with siblings currently at the first-choice school and who will continue to attend that school in 08/09
4) All others
c.  **Please note the following:
1) If students cannot be assigned to their first-choice school because of space, the same process is used for 2nd Choice and then 3rd Choice schools.
2) If it is not possible to assign students to any of their Choice schools, they will be assigned to their attendance-boundaried school.
3) Any student not assigned to his/her first-choice school will be placed on a wait list for that school ONLY in a randomized order.

Phase II begins on 2/14/08 and continues through the 08/09 school year.
a.  During this phase, starting in March, parents are requested to go to the enrollment center and enroll their students for the 08/09 school year.
b.  School assignments are made on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis during all of Phase II.
