French Society
Mission Statement
“To explore and celebrate the language and cultures of the French-speaking world.”
The Lincoln French Society is a very active club on the campus. It complements the work of the French program by providing regular cultural events throughout the year as well as having a fundraising and social outreach program.

Responsibilities of the officers:

The officers meet once per week at lunchtime to plan and organize the many events that French Society does. There’s always a lot of things to discuss because we are so active. This year we have a new president, secretary, treasurer, historian and publicist. This year we are doubling up and have two of each for the times of year when life gets really busy. (one is the main one and the other a kind of shadow) We also have an officer responsible for our movie and book collection which students can borrow at weekends.

Movie Nights:

French Society has a French movie club which purchases and shows a variety of French films after school (usually on Fridays) about twice per month throughout the year.

Soirées:

It has regular after-school meetings or “soirées”. Over the last two years, these have included a French cheese tasting, a talk about a family exchange visit to northern France and a party to welcome the French exchange visitors. Sometimes we hold competitions too (Eiffel Tower / Visions of France).

Fundraising:

Last year we raised over $2000. We had a Valentine’s Day rose delivery service, sold food on Back to School Night, sold French hot dogs on Mardi Gras and Green food on Earth day.
How do we spend the money? In many different ways.
There is almost no budget for French so we raised money to buy a huge TV, a decent CD / cassette player, many French DVDs, books and posters. But we don’t just spend the money on ourselves and our classes.
Over $500 was spent on a holiday gift basket for a family in need. In November we went to a bilingual French play called Le Malade Imaginaire, by Molière, performed at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, partly subsidized by French Soc. We participated as a team in the Relay for Life and donated $250 to this cause. The 4th year French class went to the French Jewelry exhibition at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco in May.

GSA will participate in all the National GSA/LGBT events, as well as Comunity LGBT events (such as the pride parade in June). GSA will also help spred awareness, acceptance, and alliance on our campus and Lincoln Community.

H.A.C.K. (Help a Cancer Kid) is intended to raise awareness of cancer survivor issues among young people and to raise finances by organizing participation by students in community cancer walks and fundraisers.

Junior Statesmen of America (JSA)JSA is a club that provides a forum for students to discuss and debate contemporary issues concerning their lives, their country, and the world. It gives students the chance to meet together for an intelligent and free exchange of ideas.

Latin Honor Society
The Latin Society is a committed group of students dedicated to growing Lincoln’s Latin program. We meet every other week to tutor first year students who may be struggling. Additionally, we are organized to fundraise money for our trip to Rome, so students can experience the roots of the Latin traditions.
