LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

All 9th graders will be enrolled in Physical Education Course 1.

9th graders (Class of 2012) who play sports, etc. can receive P.E. elective credits, but these do not count toward meeting their Course 1 requirements set by the state.
All students in 5th through 9th grades will be given the California Fitness Gram in the spring of each year.

All students will be required to pass the fitness gram in order to exit P.E.  A student who does not pass 5 of 6 areas of the fitness test (meeting standards) will be required to re-enroll in P.E. and test the following spring as a 10th grader.  This could possibly continue for all 4 years if the fitness gram test is not passed.

OBJECTIVES

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is expected that each student will be able to:

Demonstrate a variety of basic and advanced movements and forms.

Understand the social and personal responsibility associated with participation in
physical activity.

Identify opportunities for regular participation in lifelong physical activity.

Recognize fundamental components and strategies used in traditional games and activities.

Identify activities designed to improve and maintain muscular strength and endurance,
cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility.

Demonstrate understanding and respect for differences among people in physical
activity setting.

DRESS

All students are required to follow the Lincoln High School PE dress code.  NAVY BLUE shorts or sweatpants and the Lincoln High School PE shirt must be worn to each class meeting.  Appropriate athletic shoes are also required.  Sandals, boots, open toe shoes, or any other non-athletic footwear are NOT allowed during PE class.  All PE clothing may be bought from any PE teacher.  Students are responsible for maintaining clean clothes.  It is recommended that students take their uniform home and wash once a week.

LOCKERS

Prior to assigning PE lockers, each student must have a completed PE Locker Contract on file with their teacher.  Students must bring their own combination lock for their locker.  Key locks are not recommended as students tend to lose or forget keys.  Sharing lockers causes problems for students and teachers and is not permitted.  PE LOCKERS ARE FOR PE USE ONLY.  DO NOT STORE TEXTBOOKS OR SCHOOL BAGS IN THESE LOCKERS.  SCHOOL LOCKERS ARE AVAILABLE AND ARE ASSIGNED BY THE STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE.

LOCKER ROOMS

All students should be aware of posted locker room times.  Access to the locker rooms is not permitted during class time. NO food or drinks allowed in the locker rooms.  All students are responsible for keeping the locker room and bathroom areas clean.  Please put all trash in garbage cans. All campus supervisors working in the locker rooms are to be treated with respect at all times.

GRADING POLICY

Individual grades are based on PARTICIPATION, ATTENDANCE, and KNOWLEDGE.  Each student will be able to earn a maximum of 5 points a day, based on the following:

ATTENDANCE 1 POINT
DRESS 1 POINT
PARTICIPATION 3 POINTS

In addition, written tests and or skills testing may be given throughout each unit and may count for 10% of the grade

Each semester will be divided into three-week activity blocks.  The grade for the semester will be the cumulative grade of the three unit blocks.

Students will demonstrate proficient movement skills in:

1. Aquatics
2. Dance/Rhythms
3. Individual Activities
4. Dual Activities

NON SUIT POLICY

Physical Education is a participation activity.  Students must dress and participate on a daily basis.  Students will not be allowed to participate in the activity without the required PE attire.  If a student does not dress for class, the student will be dismissed from class and will be assigned campus cleanup during class period.  After the third non suit, parents will be notified.  The fourth non suit will result in Saturday School.

CLASSROOM RULES
1.  Be on time
2.  Dress in required PE attire
3.  Participate in daily class activities
4.  No food or drink in the activity areas

ABSENCES

All excused absences must be made up.  It is the students responsibility to make arrangements with their teacher to receive make up work.  Students have the same number of days missed to turn in make-up work.

Students who have medical problems must bring a signed doctors note or letter.  These medical excuses will be handled on a case by case basis.

If a student is feeling ill, they must bring a note from a parent or guardian to excuse student from daily activity.  Students are still required to suit up.  Parent notes are valid for up to 3 days.  After this period a doctors note is required.

Unexcused absences and non-suits may NOT be made up.  Students will automatically lose their daily points.
