Course Title: Spanish 1-2 ; Course Title: Spanish 3-4
Textbook: Buen Viaje 1 ; Textbook: Buen Viaje 2
Course Content- These courses introduce the basic communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and conjugating verbs in the present and past tenses will be emphasized. In Spanish 3-4 we cover additional verb tenses. An appreciation of the cultures of Spanish speaking people will be developed through the study of customs, traditions, history and geography. We will cover approximately 5-6 units per semester.
Required student materials- Students must bring their textbook, paper, pen or pencil, a binder with a section reserved for the Spanish class assignments, and spiral notebook or composition booklet (for vocabulary and verbs) everyday.
Make up Work and Extra Credit Policy- The number of days a student is absent (excused absences only) is the number of days he or she has to make up the work. Extra credit work is usually not assigned.
Grading and Homework Policy
• Homework and class work= 50% of your grade
• Test and quizzes=25% of your grade
• Oral participation, presentations, dialogues and projects= 25%
Homework is usually an extension of work already started in class. This way you will know how to do it at home. It must be completed before class the next day. There will be quizzes on vocabulary, verbs and grammar and chapter tests. At the end of each chapter you will perform a dialogue with a partner in front of the class. About every three or four weeks you will make presentations to the entire class on different topics and situations that we have been studying in class. You will be required to keep a vocabulary notebook that will count as a project grade.
