Absences/Illnesses

If your child is absent, please call our absence recorder at 264-5902 by 10:00 a.m. on the first day of the absence.  You may leave a message on our recorder any time, day or night, seven (7) days a week.  If you are unable to call the absence recorder, a written note is required when your child returns to school.  In our efforts to ensure the safety of your child, and we haven’t yet heard from you regarding an absence, a telephone call will be made by our office staff.

Although regular and punctual attendance at school is very important, children with fevers, sore throats, flu, or symptoms of any other communicable diseases should be kept at home.  If you are in doubt, send your child to school.  We will contact you if we discover that your child is too ill to remain in school.

The principal/principal’s designee may require a note from the physician if your child is absent more than 3 consecutive days.  If a child is absent 10% of the school days, a doctors note may also be required for every absence.  Please se the SJUSD Handbook for more information.
