Living in Silicon Valley most of us are aware of how swiftly technology changes. Technology in education is also quickly changing and improving. Reed School, along with SJUSD, has a Technology Plan to help guide us to realize our goals and priorities as they relate to the curriculum, and the technology itself. San Jose Unified School district does an excellent job supporting technology and implementing improvements to help achieve academic success. There is TSC/TSG support for staff and students, Measure F computer replacement program, software upgrades, and improvements to the infrastructure.
Reed is using Renaissance Place, Accelerated Reader Enterprise, with our Accelerated Reader Program. With AR Enterprise we have access to over 100,000+ Accelerated Reader quizzes. This means quizzes can be taken at school for books read at home, from the public library, or at school. This program is designed to make reading practice fun and exciting for every student, and helps every student achieve maximum success in reading. Parents are given the opportunity to praise their child’s reading progress by reviewing the TOPS reports that come home each week. Many thanks go to the Reed PTA for supplying the annual funds needed for this program.
In order to effectively use this program, additional equipment is needed. (i.e.: Apple computers, network printers for each classroom, workgroup switches, increased use of copy paper, etc.) Unfortunately, the funding for the hardware/software needed is not readily available to meet our needs. In order to acquire the necessary funds to purchase these items, we are asking our community members to assist with grant writing, and donations. You may have an employer who has matching grants available, or you can recommend a school donation program to contact. Do you have time to assist with writing a grant, or can you suggest a source for funding? Please contact our principal, Bonnie Thurston, at (408) 535-6247, or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you are able to help with this important component to successful technology use at Reed.
The Reed Technology Committee is leading the efforts to implement technology improvements at our school. If you are interested in joining this team of Reed parents, teachers, and administrators, please contact TSC Debbie Walker, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or Bonnie Thurston at 535-6247.
Thank you for helping to make a difference here at Reed School, where EVERY child matters!
Sincerely,
Debbie Walker
