100% correct is the goal for each book quiz taken. The Renaissance Learning Program for Grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 is supported by Simonds School Site Council, Simonds Library, and the Computer Lab. Students may read books from the Public Library, School Library, or personal copies.

The process is the following:
1. Students read a book.
2. Take an online comprehension quiz on a school computer about the book.
3. A vocabulary quiz will test comprehension of new vocabulary words from the book.
4. Students should keep a record of their books read and the percentage correct on each quiz.
The STAR Reading Test assesses the reading comprehension level of each student. Test results present a “zone of proximal development” (ZPD) for students with a range from grades 1-12. The ZPD range is used to find appropriate reading-level books in the classroom, school or public library. Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 are tested in the early days of the new school year in the Computer Lab. Students in Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 test usually mid-year in January or early February.
