All students receive instruction through creative dramatics once a week. Dramatics are used to emphasize and elaborate on classroom curriculum based on grade level themes: language development, science, literature, history and mathematics. Social skills are played out and understood through created situations based on different themes: peer pressure, friends, strangers, perseverance and making smart choices. Drama gives many experiences to all students, building a broad foundation for every student to draw upon in their everyday decision making.
Beyond the regular drama class sessions, all students participate in a grade level production. Students are also encouraged to develop their own ideas. A “special projects” time with the drama teacher is used as forum for nurturing the imaginations of these young thinkers. Through drama classes, performances and special projects, self-esteem and confidence are built in our young people, laying a strong foundation from which healthy, independent minds can grow and succeed.
