All Trace students participate in music classes regularly throughout the year. Students learn techniques for healthy singing while performing songs of many cultures. They receive instruction in basic musical concepts, explore beginning notation, and learn about orchestral and world instruments. Children use rhythm and melody instruments with great enthusiasm to reinforce concepts and prepare them for advanced instrumental study later. Third through fifth graders are offered the opportunity to study with credentialed orchestra, band, and choir teachers.
The music program strives to coordinate with the academic offerings whenever possible. Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, literature, second language learning and mathematics concepts are all reinforced at every available opportunity.
Other goals of the music program include fostering physical coordination through rhythmic movement, cooperative learning, working toward a common goal, and creative expression through music.
