Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the school policy on open gates/entrances to campus?

All entry points to Trace Elementary must be kept unlocked for fire safety reasons. However, at 9am each morning, we have a staff person closing the gates/fences around campus. We are also working on getting signs that request parents to “Please close the gate behind you.”

2. How is the Parent Involvement program going?

The PIE program continues to be a high priority for the faculty and staff at Trace. There has been continued growth in the program this year and our highest priority is on recruiting.  You can help us with recruiting by talking to all the parents in your classroom about the program and how easy it is to make a difference in the lives of not only your child, but all the children at Trace.

Please remind parents that they do not have to be in the classroom to earn hours. There are plenty of other areas where we could use help (planning events, lunch time clubs, grading at home, fieldtrips etc.).  Help us to reach our goal of at least 75% PIE in every classroom at Trace!

3. How do we protect our new stage from weekend usage by skateboarders?

We are looking into possible signage for the stage.

4. What is the climate like around campus so far this year?

The faculty and staff at Trace has seen a big improvement in campus climate this year with the staggered recesses, the additional games, new playground and the new Trace store where kids earn Tiger Tickets for good behavior to purchase items in the store. Programs like Project Cornerstone have also made a big difference in campus climate. On the most recent evaluation of Trace based on the 2008-2009 school year, test scores jumped from 761 to 788 and we saw a 10% improvement in our “Caring School Climate” rating.  The PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support) program is just getting started this year as well to further encourage positive behavior on campus.

5. How do I reach Ms. Martinez with questions?

Ms. Martinez has an open door policy. She welcomes your questions. Feel free to send her an email or if you see her on campus, stop her to ask a question. You can also schedule a meeting with her at the front office.
