Merritt Trace Elementary School > Project Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone trains and mobilizes school staff, students and parents to build development assets in order to support student success, academically and in all areas of their lives.  One component of Project Cornerstone is the Los Dichos/ABC reading campaign.  This is a program to incorporate asset building into classrooms and teaches students how to be good citizens, expect respect, get along with others, and become generally strong, confident contributing members of the Trace community.  Parents read specific books with messages that address many assets such as Family Support, Caring Neighborhood, Safety, Time at Home, Cultural Competence, and Positive Cultural Identity. Congratulations to Trace Elementary for being selected the
2010 Cornerstone Asset Champion
in Santa Clara County!

Asset champions are individuals or organizations that make extraordinary efforts to build developmental assets and create positive connections with young people, and inspire others to do the same. We are very proud of the work Principal Mary Martinez, her staff and community have done in developing a positive, caring school while embracing diversity as an asset.  Trace will be recognized on March 25th at the annual Project Cornerstone Asset Champions Breakfast which will have approximately 700 people attending from local government, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
