Learning is FUN

Congratulations to the second and third grade Avenues teachers who are excelling at one of our schoolís goals for this year:  BRING THE WORLD TO WASHINGTON.  Second grade had a special event to launch the unit about holidays and third grade had theirs about deserts.  Both groups of students were amazed while seeing pictures of holidays around the world and different deserts in all the continents.  It was evident that Ms Montoya, Ms Antonini, Ms Usilton, Ms Tagimaroa, Ms Villar, Ms Canela, and Ms Valdez spent a considerable amount of time creating those powerpoint presentations with colorful pictures and maps.  They also planned the use of both GLAD and the Big 5 strategies:  Students saw pictorial narratives, were involved in really good think-pair-shares, used the supportive questioning (Q-matrix), and lots of T.P.R! This is an excellent idea that really impacts our students English proficiency and their perception of the world!
