Washington Elementary School

A Success Story

A Success Story
Washington Elementary serves a student population of 600 children:  kindergarten through fifth grades.  Located in downtown San Jose, the school is situated next door to the Bibilioteca Latino Americana (a San Jose Public Library), the Washington Youth Center, a State sponsored Preschool, and a licensed Federally Qualified Health Center.  These support services are important to the community, as 92% of Washington’s families qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.

Thirty certificated teachers, resource teachers, and a dedicated staff work to close the achievement gap by implementing research-based academic programs, including ALA, Project GLAD, Frontloading, Accelerated Reader, TutorWorks, Thinking Maps, Singapore Math, Lesson Studies . . . Teachers meet weekly, by grade level, to prepare Standards-based lessons. With growing parent support and successful interventions, Washington is proud to have exited from Program Improvement, meeting both AYP and API targets.
Washington is a dynamic place to learn:  for teachers, for students, and for parents.  Come share in our success
