Name: Elizabeth (Liza) Robledo
Years Working at Washington: This is my second year at Washington and my 5th with San Jose Unified. I’ve taught for a total of 16 years. Most of these 16 years were at Alum Rock.
The best part about working at Washington Elementary is:
We work together well at Washington School, not only as a staff but in our grade level teams. All staff members share ideas, materials and resources readily.
This year I am proud to work as a First Grade Teacher because: I feel a special calling to work with young children, who are so eager to learn and have so much to give to a community like ours. I see my part in a first grader’s life as crucial to get them on a positive tract toward higher education in their future.
My teaching philosophy includes: Children learn from every adult in their lives, whether positive or negative. My goal is to be the most positive influence in their lives, so they see school as a positive experience in which they desire to have more of. I have not met one student that I didn’t like, because I see students as unique individuals that bring with them so much. I try to love the child for who he is and guide him/her to develop into someone who chooses to make our world a better place. Children who do this are children who have a positive view of themselves and see themselves as empowered individuals.
I am happiest at school when: When I see a child’s eyes light up, which can be an indication that this child understands something new, with the hopes that I contributed to this enlightenment.
My interests outside of school include:
I enjoy teaching preschoolers at my church. I also enjoy spending time with my 3 year old grandson, Jonathan. When I’m not doing the above two activities, I like to cross stitch and read.
My birthday is on: September 10th
