As a teacher at Washington Elementary, I, Ana Silva, believe . . .
That every staff member at Washington knows that our students can be successful. This is the reason that everyone at our school gives it their all every day to assure that students are learning. The staff collaborates so that the students can reach grade level proficiency. The staff is very united and not only are they there for the students, but they are also there for one another. I am proud to work with such a caring staff.
I believe that as a teacher I touch the lives of the students here at Washington. I believe that not only do I need to teach reading, math, writing, etc but I also have to teach them life long learning skills so that they can go on to college and be successful. I also believe that these life long learning skills will teach them to fend for themselves. I, nor their parents, will be there for every situation that they are confronted with.
I believe that a student’s education has three sides to it like a triangle. One side being the teacher, the other the student and finally the parents. I believe that for a student to be successful everyone in the equation needs to be held accountable. I hold myself accountable to teach the standards. I believe in holding my students accountable for their work and I also believe in holding the parents accountable to bring their children to school on time and prepared to learn. I tell my students and parents that I do not accept excuses only reasons.
Finally, I believe we as teachers hold the future of the world in our hands.
