The Sophomore year is one in which students can start to plan for college and explore college options.  In October, all Sophomores may sign up to take the PSAT, an important opportunity to practice taking the SAT Reasoning test.  Sophomores and their families can attend College Night at WGHS in October, and also the WACAC College Fair in May. The summer is the ideal time to start touring college campuses.  The summer vacation is also the time to get a part-time job, or to volunteer, or to participate in a summer program.

SOPHOMORE PARENT EVENING: PSAT, SAT, AND COLLEGE PREPARATION Thursday, September 24th, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the College & Careers Center

This information evening will address the academic requirements that students need to fulfill to be eligible for the California University systems.  We will also discuss the PSAT test, and test preparation options.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS PSAT TEST DATE Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Sophomores wishing to take the PSAT will need to sign up in the College and Careers Center during the week of September 21st to September 25th, and pay a $15 fee.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS “GETTING BACK ON TRACK” Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 in the Little Theater

An opportunity for students needing to make up credits necessary for high school graduation to explore the options open to them. Representatives from Community Colleges, CCOC and PASS will be available to help students select courses and programs to make up any necessary courses.

PSAT SCORE READING AND PATHS TO IMPROVEMENT WORKSHOPS Thursday, January 7th/Friday, January 8th, 2010 in the College and Careers Center

All Sophomores who took the PSAT will attend this workshop in the College and Careers Center through their English classes.  Students will be taught how to read their PSAT score reports, and explore the facilities available to them to improve their SAT scores.

MOCK SAT TEST WITH REVOLUTION TEST PREP Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 from 8:45 am to 1:00 pm in the Library/Media Center

All Sophomores are welcome to come and take a practice SAT test. As a fundraiser for WGHS, a donation of $10 will be used to fund WGHS scholarships for college-bound Seniors. Students will receive an online score report including a detailed performance analysis, plus written feedback on the essay.  Register online at http://www.revolutionprep.com

SAT INFORMATION EVENING FOR JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES Thursday, February 4th, 2010 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the College & Careers Center

This important information evening will address the SAT tests, including test content, the test registration process, what tests to take and when to take them, and SAT test preparation options. Spanish translation will be provided.

SOPHOMORE “COLLEGE DREAM” CLASS GROUPS Monday, May 17th and Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 in the College and Careers Center

All Sophomores will visit the College and Careers Center in their Social Studies classes to explore and discuss college options.
