Friends of Rachel Club

Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America.

In October 2008, we brought an assembly to WGMS showing powerful video/audio footage of Rachel’s life and the Columbine tragedy. This one-hour school presentation helps motivate students to make positive changes in the way they treat others.

MEETINGS
Weekly meetings will be held on Thursdays during lunch for those WGMS students who wish to participate in the Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club.

RECENT NEWS
We’d like to thank the 14 students from WGMS’ Friends of Rachel Club who donated their time over Thanksgiving week to help people who are out of work, homeless or just down on their luck. When we arrived at Sacred Heart, it was heartbreaking to see the line of people stretching around the block who needed food and clothing, WGMS students worked in the Clothes Closet, a “store” that provides blankets, clothing and toys to those in need. We were surprised that items most in demand were new underwear and socks. This visit made us feel very grateful for what we have.  Sacred Heart is seeing a greater need for food and clothing than ever before, and with the holidays coming up, toys are also in high demand. If you’d like more information, visit http://www.shctheheart.org.

Thanks for these student members for making a difference in the community!
