Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is comprised of Willow Glen Middle parents, teachers and students who work to support our school and community. To do this, we organize fundraisers, activities and other events to enrich the WGMS experience.  We hope you’ll join us!

MISSION OF THE PTA

The Willow Glen Middle School PTA is a non-profit volunteer organization.  Our PTA is a member of the National PTA, the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation.  In California, the state PTA organization ranks as the oldest and largest statewide non-profit volunteer organization advocating on behalf of our children.

PTA believes:

* Every adult has a responsibility to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop to their full potential.
* Parents/guardians are childrens’ first teachers.
* Family involvement is essential throughout a child’s educational experience.
* Family is the basic unit of society responsible for the support and nurturing of all children.
* Family may be defined many ways.

Our collective responsibility includes advocating for the safety, welfare, and the opportunity for quality public education for all children. (*from the California State PTA website)

PTA AT WILLOW GLEN MIDDLE

At the school community level, the PTA organizes and sponsors community-building events such as WEB Day (Where Everybody Belongs), an orientation day for incoming 6th graders; Ram Power Breakfast, an open house and recruiting event; and the Open House Ice Cream Social.

The WGMS PTA raises money to support student activities such as classroom supplies (art, music, science, reading), library materials, academic honors recognition ceremonies and teacher appreciation events.

PTA volunteers contribute greatly to the smooth operation of the school.  PTA and its volunteers are involved before the school year starts with WEB Leader Training, WEB Day, and the Welcome Back Lunch for the teachers. Volunteers continue to support school throughout the year with Lunch Cart, Student Store, Clothes Closet, Math Festival and Scholastic Achievement Recognition programs.  Volunteers wrap up the end of the school year with activities such as 8th Grade Promotion activities.

The Athletic Boosters, a branch of PTA, raises money specifically to support the many athletic teams at the school.  The Athletic Boosters provide funds for uniforms, equipment, coaches and referees.

PTA meets on a monthly basis September through May, with no meeting in December.  At the monthly meetings members vote on requests for funding and receive updates on PTA and school activities from the Principal and Committee Chairs.
