Solar Installation Project

Please be advised that the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD), along with Bank of America and Chevron Energy Solutions, has undertaken the largest K-12 Solar Installation project in the United States and is presently in the process of the construction activities to complete the work prior to the end of 2008.

Willow Glen Middle and High campus is one of the sites to receive solar panels.  This may affect the street parking across from the main campus and adjacent neighboring streets.  District Construction Staff, Construction Management, the Principal and Staff of Willow Glen Middle have met to discuss all issues and concerns.  The largest impact will be the Middle School Staff parking lot on the south end of the campus.  Portions of this parking lot will need to be blocked off as heavy steel and other equipment is lifted and placed.  This may cause overflow traffic to park on Cottle Ave., Madrona Ave., and Sandra Dr. during regular school hours.  Please note that we will work with the site to ensure student drop-off and pick-up will be available during regular hours.

Chevron Energy Solutions (CES), and San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD), would like to apologize for any inconvenience or disruption the construction activities may cause. We understand how disruptive these activities may seem, but rest assured the construction will be over by the end of the year and the neighborhood will be back to its normal state. You will notice at most of the sites that once the electrical infrastructure and the steel erection is completed, that the remainder of the activities are not nearly as disruptive to the neighborhoods. With school back in session, however, it may be necessary to increase parking in surrounding neighborhoods so construction can proceed to completion.

Primary focus is to the learning activities on the campuses and that the construction is not disruptive to this most important element, therefore we were trying to complete as much work as possible while schools were on Summer break.

Please note that this operation is sequence driven and must be successfully completed in order to deliver the District a project that will save millions of dollars over the life of the systems by self generating a portion of the power consumed at each of these locations.

CES and SJUSD appreciates your patience and hopes you will experience only minimal disruption for the duration of the project.

Sincerely,
Tom Herrington
Administrator, SJUSD School Construction
