Definition

Under direction, collects, reviews, and arranges input data, tapes, cards, equipment programs,
parameter cards, post lists, carriage tapes, output forms, etc., in a form for data input
processor and computer operators to process; verifies accuracy of reports, and monitors
progress of jobs making schedule changes in accordance with urgency of jobs and
availability of equipment facilities

Examples of Duties

Receives, edits, and processes input data in accordance with instructions set forth in the
input and control procedure manuals; collects all the required material needed for the
processing of the data by key-drive or computer equipment, such as programs, carriage
tapes, magnetic tapes, cards, special paper forms, etc., prepares and revises necessary
parameter cards and special instructions for proper processing; screens input data for
completeness and records control totals, verifies output totals and format and investigates
discrepancies; responsible for the preparation of output data for distribution and for the
distribution of the data to the user department; operates unit record equipment, key-driven
equipment and optical character recognition equipment; on occasion operates electronic
computer equipment under close supervision; monitors jobs in progress and modifies
equipment schedules in order to accommodate established priorities and schedules; will
maintain files and records to assist in performing the necessary control processes and the
tape library; does related work as required.

IV.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions at this level act in the capacity of coordinator or expeditor and as such carry no
supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include the editing of data analyzing work
progress and modifying schedules previously established by the supervisor.

A.

Knowledge of:

General principles and operations of electronic computer systems related
equipment, and data processing techniques, electronic computer
procedures and limitations;
Principles of supervisory computer control systems;

Modern office methods;

Letter and report writing;

Basic mathematical functions and statistical methods;

Accounting principles and business administration practices;

Ability to:

Operate unit record, key-driven and electronic equipment;

Wire unit record equipment control boards;

Perform arithmetic computations;

Compile statistical data and maintain involved records and files;

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

Completion of 12th grade and two years of work experience in the
performance of difficult clerical operations and accounting processes and
year of experience in the operation of key-driven equipment.
