Night Relief Custodian

II.

Definition

Assigned to Operations Department under general supervision, to perform routine cleaning
work in a school plant or installation on a temporary basis, covering the work of a
Custodian I or Pool Custodian; and cleaning assignment only of Custodian II that are on
evening shifts; and to do related work consistent with the job description .

III.

Examples of Duties

Working from a prepared work schedule, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes concrete,
linoleum, tile and wood floors; vacuums rugs and carpets in school plant offices and rooms;
cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment; sweeps walks and
entrances; changes lights; washes, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms; cleans windows,
doorglass, and drinking fountain; cleans and polishes metal work; empties and cleans waste
containers; assists in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other
equipment; maintains equipment used in the course of work; performs special custodial
work upon request of faculty members; reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards; assists in
the cleaning of buildings during vacations; may operate and service swimming pool filters,
pumps, and chlorinators; tests pool water for P.H and chlorine content; keeps water at
proper temperature; vacuums pool to remove dirt and foreign objects, and cleans pool area;
works with Operations crew when not needed for custodial relief.

Employment Standards

A.

Knowledge of:

Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials
and equipment;

Methods and practices of pool maintenance;

Tools and basic practices of building maintenance work.

B.

Ability to:
Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency;

Perform heavy physical labor;

Meet the public tactfully and courteously and establish and maintain
cooperative and effective working relationships;

Read and understand directions in use of chemicals and solutions,
especially those which could be dangerous to a person's health;

Be available for any shift assignment to meet the operational

requirements of the District.

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

Completion of 10th grade or equivalent or any combination of education,
experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of
knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

D.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid California Driver's License.

VI.

Must pass District test requirements.
